How your social media should support your 90-day plan

Eh? What 90-day plan…are you talking about my 5-year business plan?

Well, kind of...

Ask yourself this: Where do you fit in when it comes to social media marketing activity?

  • I have an account but do nothing

  • I rarely post but when I do it’s quite random

  • I post regularly but only about what I’m selling

  • I post regularly with a mix of what I think is interesting

  • I strategically smash my socials and work to a plan

Hopefully, we’re all busy in our businesses and building our online presence, but more often than not, when we get busy, our social output dwindles and that’s why it is so important to plan!

Think back to when you started your business; the planning involved was immense! Coming up with a 5-year business plan incorporating your sales and marketing, executing it, as well as being all things in your business. But you’re still here. You may feel that your marketing approach is a bit hap-hazard, but I’m about to show you how to get clarity and target your social media message through a bite-sized 90-day plan that truly reflects what’s happing in your business today.

You may be thinking a 90-day plan isn’t very bite-sized, but it is! The key is not to be overwhelmed and I can assure you it’s not as scary as it sounds. Let’s start with working backwards from your 5-year plan.

What is your end goal in your 5-year plan?

50 regular clients, increase sales, have a minimum income of £XX,000s, reduce hours, sell up or take early retirement? Every one of us will have a different end goal, but how are YOU going to get to yours?

What can you do over the next 12 months (which is 1:5 of your plan cycle) to help towards your goal? Make a list of things you want to do or change in your business that will steer your course and start from there. Examples:

  • Rebrand

  • Update your website

  • Attend more exhibitions

  • Get more qualified

  • Increase service offering/products

  • Push for more reviews/testimonials

  • Take on more staff… lists are unique and endless.

I’ve used the list above to break this down into quarterly chunks.

Q1

Q2

Q3

Q4

Look into rebranding the business and with new logo and look rebrand the website

Undertake more training courses and develop skills at expos and events

Review services/ products and get 10 x 5* reviews per month

Take on an extra person

When we start to focus and start to drill down on the progress we need to make, we can see results.

Let’s take your Q1 to-do list; it’s only 90 days…3 months…1/4 of your year – like I said: BITE-SIZED!

Q1 - Month 1

Q1 - Month 2

Q1 - Month 3

  • Look at competitor sites for new products/services

  • Get inspired ideas

  • Source a designer

  • Train to do it yourself

  • Choose logos/designs

  • Trial them/do polls/feedback

  • The first 30 days are the get started phase – the homework - here you can look at your brand and its environment and start strategising for the longer term.

  • The next 31-60 days you should be in a better position to take action and start to make progress.

  • 61-90 days is where you can really show the difference you’ve made.

So, how does this translate in your social media strategy?

As you go on this journey of discovery about your business, new ideas and questions will pop into your head and you’ll undercover new aspects of your field of expertise. You can use all of this new-found information to support your social media content.

Even if you only post 2 posts a week, for a month, you only have to come up with 8 posts for that month. And, if you can’t say anything on social about your business journey, values, brand message, products, services, reviews, customer satisfaction or your new sexy brand, in 8 posts, you need some business support. Whether you CBA’d (can be arsed) or you just don’t know where to start, I’m here to help.

What do you need to start saying to your audience and customers for you to reach your goal?
